Faith Groups Endorse Global Security Priorities Resolution
By: Patricia Anton
A coalition of faith organizations has endorsed the Global Security Priorities Resolution, a new resolution introduced in Congress this March by Congressmen Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Dan Lungren (R-CA). Reading the resolution, I was encouraged to see several of the points we have advocated in the Muslim-Christian Initiative statement coming together as proposed policy. In the name of security, particularly when considering the threat of terrorism, the resolution calls for reducing the U.S. and Russian nuclear arsenals to 1000 deployed/3000 total weapons each by 2015 and that some of the financial savings from such a move be redirected to the Nunn-Lugar program, as well as $6.5 billion to "child survival, hunger, and universal education" programs worldwide in an attempt to address the root causes of terrorism.

Blood Crying Out from the Earth: Nuclear Conflict and Global Cooling
By: Rev. Amanda Hendler-Voss
Excerpt: The Earth bears witness to our violence. The blood we spill cries out to God, and the Earth drinks this tragic cup. Here, in the beginning of the beginning, human violence is a root cause of our broken relationship with the Earth. As our warring intensifies and our weapons become increasingly toxic, the virus of human violence poisons God’s creation.
There is a compelling relationship between ecology and war. What is the carbon footprint of a fighter jet manufactured in Georgia and flown half way around the world to engage a so-called enemy? How do you measure the environmental impact of weapons of mass destruction? Even more pressing, how have nuclear weapons permanently altered the ethical conversation about war’s degradation of creation?

Questioning the Wisdom of Nuclear Trade
By: Ibrahim Ramey
Is the “unthinkable” destruction of human life on earth by atomic weapons now re-emerging as a clear and present danger in the modern world? It very well may be -- with Muslims at the very center of the controversy, and the danger.
There is no shortage of bad news from the Middle East, but recently many of us who read these dispatches were confronted with a sobering reality: major political leaders in Israel are now openly calling for pre-emptive attacks on Iran in response to Tehran’s refusal to halt it’s national program to make enriched Uranium and, ostensibly, weapons-grade material for nuclear weapons. And all of this emerged while the United States entered into an agreement to share nuclear technology with Saudi Arabia. This is, presumably, the same nuclear technology that could precipitate an attack on Iran.
